IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Why We Removed Our Free Bhagavad Gita PDFs
Hare Krishna Devotees,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the removal of our freely accessible Bhagavad Gita materials from this website. Recently, the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT), affiliated with ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness), served us with a legal notice demanding that we take down our Bhagavad Gita resources and discontinue any form of distribution. Although our sole intention was to share the timeless wisdom of Gaudiya Vaishnavism FREE OF COST, ISKCON has insisted that individuals must buy their officially authorized books instead.
Our Original Intent
- Free Access to Teachings: We follow the same Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition and believe the Bhagavad Gita’s teachings should be shared with everyone—especially curious youngsters—without a price tag.
- Non-Commercial & Volunteer-Driven: No donations or fees were ever required to view or download the Gita content on our platform. Every translation layout, design, and formatting choice was our own, created out of love and devotion.
Why We Removed the Content
- Legal Pressures: The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) asserted copyright over their specific translations and commentary (“tatparya”) of the Bhagavad Gita. While the original Sanskrit verses of the Gita remain in the public domain, the translated material in question is protected under copyright law. Out of respect for their legal claim and to avoid prolonged legal proceedings, we have removed the content from our platform.
- ISKCON insists individuals to BUY gita from their publications if they want to read.
Shared Tradition, Divergent Values
We deeply respect the spiritual lineage of Gaudiya Vaishnavism that both parties share. Yet, we cannot help but express our disappointment.
High Court Notice
Below is a reference to the recent High Court directive that ultimately required us to take the content offline. This legal precedent highlights ISKCON’s stand that their “translations and commentary” are protected by copyright. We believe the move to restrain anyone else from distributing similar content for free reflects a larger push to monetize spiritual knowledge.
Future Outlook
- **We Respect the Law—**but we also feel it is tragic that free spiritual resources must be taken down.
- We will come with our own translations soon in future.
If you were benefiting from these materials, we sincerely apologize that we can no longer provide them. Please understand that this decision was forced upon us by legal pressure rather than by any change in our mission.
Thank you for your continued support and for understanding the complexities behind this issue. We remain committed to spiritual upliftment and hope to resume offering free resources—within our legal rights—in the near future.
